Full-Time Certified Veterinary Technician

At Tomoka Pines Veterinary Hospital, we provide wellness and preventative care, surgery, dentistry, digital radiography, ultrasound, and both in-house and external lab diagnostics.
We're seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician skilled in anesthesia, surgery, and dental procedures who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You'll assist veterinarians during exams and treatments, administer medications and vaccines, perform lab tests and diagnostics, monitor recovery, and help educate pet owners on proper care.
Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication are essential. Previous veterinary experience is required, and licensure (LVT/CVT/RVT) or equivalent experience is preferred.
This is a full-time role with flexible scheduling, no nights or weekends, and higher pay for experienced individuals. We also offer great pet care benefits and opportunities for continued growth.

Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm
Closed on Saturdays and Sundays
No nights or weekends required
Compensation
$20 to $24 per hour based on experience
Higher pay available for very experienced candidates

Job Summary
The Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) supports the operation of an animal hospital by providing medical care to patients in accordance with veterinary practice regulations. The CVT guides and trains medical support staff, ensures smooth workflow during shifts, and communicates effectively with team members and clients.
Note: The Certified Veterinary Technician title is used in the following states based on state-specific licensing and credentialing requirements: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, and Utah. Responsibilities may vary depending on the hospital and/or state. Responsibilities will be outlined by the state's Veterinary Practice Act and/or the responsible veterinarian, where applicable.
Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care under the supervision of a veterinarian (DVM).
- Maintain clear and accurate medical, client, and case records using appropriate terminology and grammar.
- Review medical records, treatment estimates, and discharge instructions with clients, and respond to basic animal care inquiries, escalating medical questions to veterinarians as needed.
- Guide and support medical support staff to ensure efficient shift operations and workflow.
- Mentor team members to encourage career growth and personal development.
- Provide input for 360-degree performance evaluations of employees.
- Assist with client services including appointment scheduling, payments, check-in, and courteous phone communication.
- Provide feedback and suggest improvements to training programs; participate in training sessions, job shadows, and working interviews.
- Perform assigned cleaning, clinic upkeep, and equipment maintenance tasks.
- Delegate cleaning or other duties during slow periods when a supervisor is unavailable.
- Identify and address areas needing additional attention within the clinic environment.
- Answer client inquiries confidently about routine procedures and animal care.
- Communicate effectively with team members and clients to support patient care and hospital operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned within the nature and level of work.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program.
- Current state veterinary technician license in good standing.
- One year of experience in the veterinary industry is preferred.
- Proficiency in a range of technical skills including laboratory procedures, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental care, and nursing.
- Ability to administer subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) injections.
- Knowledge of commonly used veterinary medications including dosage, side effects, and client communication.
- Understanding of anesthesia and patient recovery monitoring, with the ability to recognize and report changes in patient status.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in stressful or fast-paced environments, including medical emergencies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfort and confidence in handling animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds independently, and over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Capacity to sit, stand, and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
- Ability to work in noisy environments with sounds from animals and medical equipment.
- Routine exposure to animals that may bite or scratch.
- Occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medications/controlled substances.
- Adequate hearing to understand verbal instructions and client communication.
- Vision capabilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate medical equipment and computer systems.
