Position Overview
We're seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our dedicated team! The ideal candidate is motivated, detail-oriented, and enjoys working collaboratively in a fast-paced, supportive setting. You'll assist our doctors with patient care, anesthesia, surgery, and client communication while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Schedule
- Clinic Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Weekends: Closed
- Work Week: 4-day schedule for work-life balance
- Pay: $20 - $25/hour (commensurate with experience)

- Administer and monitor anesthesia with proficiency and care
- Assist veterinarians during surgery and dental procedures
- Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and sample collection
- Provide compassionate patient nursing and client education
- Support smooth daily operations and mentor veterinary assistants
- Maintain accurate medical records and uphold hospital standards
- Current South Carolina LVT license (or eligibility to obtain one)
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in clinical or surgical settings preferred
- Proficiency in anesthesia, surgery, and lab techniques
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills

Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care under the supervision of a veterinarian (DVM).
- Maintain clear and accurate medical, client, and case records using appropriate terminology and grammar.
- Review medical records, treatment estimates, and discharge instructions with clients, and respond to basic animal care inquiries, escalating medical questions to veterinarians as needed.
- Guide and support medical support staff to ensure efficient shift operations and workflow.
- Mentor team members to encourage career growth and personal development.
- Provide input for 360-degree performance evaluations of employees.
- Assist with client services including appointment scheduling, payments, check-in, and courteous phone communication.
- Provide feedback and suggest improvements to training programs; participate in training sessions, job shadows, and working interviews.
- Perform assigned cleaning, clinic upkeep, and equipment maintenance tasks.
- Delegate cleaning or other duties during slow periods when a supervisor is unavailable.
- Identify and address areas needing additional attention within the clinic environment.
- Answer client inquiries confidently about routine procedures and animal care.
- Communicate effectively with team members and clients to support patient care and hospital operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned within the nature and level of work.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program.
- Current state veterinary technician license in good standing.
- One year of experience in the veterinary industry is preferred.
- Proficiency in a range of technical skills including laboratory procedures, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental care, and nursing.
- Ability to administer subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) injections.
- Knowledge of commonly used veterinary medications including dosage, side effects, and client communication.
- Understanding of anesthesia and patient recovery monitoring, with the ability to recognize and report changes in patient status.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in stressful or fast-paced environments, including medical emergencies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfort and confidence in handling animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds independently, and over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Capacity to sit, stand, and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
- Ability to work in noisy environments with sounds from animals and medical equipment.
- Routine exposure to animals that may bite or scratch.
- Occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medications/controlled substances.
- Adequate hearing to understand verbal instructions and client communication.
- Vision capabilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate medical equipment and computer systems
